Benefits of Different Types of Commercial Cladding Systems

On August 31, 2013 by admin

Cladding is also referred to as siding or weatherboarding. It is basically affixing or attaching a material on top of another. This is done for functional as well as aesthetic purposes. The additional material will provide additional protection on the material underneath. The material provides protection against the harsh weather and climate and also constant contact by people and other creatures. The material placed over the initial material will usually be stronger and more durable. Cladding is also used to improve the beauty of a surface. Cladding comes in different colors, shapes and designs that will augment the aesthetic appeal of the underlying material. Common types of commercial cladding systems are as follows:

Metal Cladding

This form of cladding is an also among the cheapest and easiest to install. Metal cladding is also very strong and durable thus will provide longtime service. To further improve longevity, a coat of paint or varnish is usually applied periodically. Metal siding is also very efficient in keeping away the heat in warm days such as during the summer season. However, it is important to choose good metal since some types of metal will corrode and rust if exposed to moisture for a longtime.

Rendered/Stucco Cladding

Stucco cladding is the most expensive commercial cladding systemsin terms of purchasing and also installation. Fitting Stucco cladding requires great skill and experience. Conversely, Stucco cladding is the most efficient in terms of maintaining a cool indoor atmosphere. Its thick insulation will maintain the cold air inside and keep away the heat. Under normal circumstances, Stucco cladding can last a very long time. However, constant hard hits and knocks will damage the cladding.

Wood Cladding

Wood cladding is usually used due to its aesthetic appeal. Timber has an elegant and rustic appeal that is not found in other cladding types. The type of timber or wood used will also determine the durability of the protective sheathing. Hard wood is always good, but is also expensive. Installing wood cladding is not easy; precision is required when cutting the wood. Wood also shrinks with age and may also crack or split. Timber cladding also requires periodic maintenance to keep away pesticides and moisture. Wood cladding can also catch fire easily.

Vinyl Cladding

Vinyl cladding is one of the cheapest forms of commercial cladding systems. It is not only cheap to purchase, but also easy to install. Improved technology has made vinyl stronger and more durable hence becoming one of the most used materials. The cladding material is scratch resistance and also a good insulating material that conserves heat and also keeps cold away. However, vinyl will tend to crack under extreme weather conditions such as hot dry weather or salty and humid weather.

Other forms of cladding that are commonly used include concrete, brick, stone, fiber cement and weatherboard cladding and much more. Prior to cladding, it is important to consider features such as cost, ease of installation, durability, authenticity, aesthetic appeal and also eco –friendliness. Good commercial cladding systems will feature most if not all of the above characteristics in a positive aspect.
