Use skylights to save electricity

On November 1, 2013 by admin

Nowadays, it is trendy to find ways to save on the electric bill as much as possible. It is not only a good way to take care of the planet but also to save on your budget. People want to reduce their carbon footprint and fight the climate change and global warming. That is a very altruistic reason. But part of the motivation comes from self interest to save more money. One good way to save electricity is using skylights instead of the conventional lights. The skylights can help you save energy and money and they also reduce the carbon footprint on the planet.
We waste a lot of electricity without even realising it. We overuse the lights in our home when is not really necessary. Many rooms and offices were not built based on an eco friendly design. They get dark already in the early hours of the afternoon. Even those houses that were built eco friendly and that are trying to optimise the use of the natural light can have unwanted shadows because of the furniture staying in the way of the natural light flow. For all these situations using the skylights is the right solution.
A skylight has a unique design that allows it to catch the sunlight during the day. The effective design can assure achieving good performance all the year round, even on twilight or cloudy days. The skylight tube use aluminium that focuses the sunlight to the diffuser. Then the light is evenly dispersed from the diffuser throughout your office or your room. This will solve the issue of having shadows in the room because the light is coming directly from the sun above. That will greatly reduce your electric bills because you will be able to have natural light well past the usual time and you’ll not need to switch on the electric lights at early hours. The tubular design skylight has advantages over the flat skylight design. The heat loss is less because the surface area is smaller in a tubular skylight. Tubular skylights can be better insulated and they don’t lose so much coolness in the summer or heat in the winter.
Skylights not only help you saving electricity and reduce your carbon footprint, but they are also a healthier alternative to electric lights. The natural light is better for your eyes than the artificial light when reading or working on a computer. The sunlight is also a natural antidepressant and improves your mood.
For even more comfort and convenience you can use an electric skylight. In an electric skylight the roller blinds are electrically operated. The electric skylight allows venting and active circulation of the air. You can open it and close it using a remote control that has advanced functions for both the blind operation and the skylight operation. Some models are equipped with sensors for rain and will automatically close if it starts to rain. The rain sensor is internally mounted and when the electric skylight is open the sensor stays exposed to the rain. If rain is detected the electric skylight automatically closes. The electric skylights have also included a timer function.
